On August 21, 1911, inside the Louvre museum in Paris, a plumber stumbled upon a man stuck in front of a locked door. This man was wearing a white smock and pointed out to the plumber that the doorknob was missing and that he was stuck. The plumber opened the door for him with some pliers. Little did he know that he had just helped the mysterious man walk out of the museum with a stolen painting. Hidden under the man's smock was the Mona Lisa.

The man in the picture is Vincenzo Peruggia, and he is the man who stole the Mona Lisa. Vincenzo Peruggia was an Italian immigrant who worked and lived in Paris.
